Coming from a competitive track and field background, my fitness was primarily fast paced, filled with intense cardio workouts. I excelled in sprinting events at the National level in high school and continued on to the Collegiate level at the University of Massachusetts Lowell. After college I began running distance and have completed two Marathons including Boston in 2017. I took up yoga originally as an "active rest day," to balance my training program and improve flexibility. My excessive running caused me to develop an overuse injury. During recovery, I was unable to run, so I began to attend more yoga classes and practiced 2-3 times a week. By stretching and strengthening the muscles that were tight and overused, yoga helped to overcome my injury. My yoga practice was heightened after I found a yoga studio that helped me to make the mind & body connection, as I focused more on the breathing component.
This helped me to step away from my competitive nature and listen to my body. From there I went on to get my 200 hour RYT.
My yoga practice and teaching deepened even further during my pregnancy with my two baby girls I attribute having both an easy pregnancy and delivery 100% to my yoga practice. During my second pregnancy I decided to embark on a pre and post natal training to help further understand the changes that were happening in my body and how to adjust my practice accordingly.
Yoga is there to lift me up when I'm feeling down, give me energy when I'm low, and calm me down when I'm stressed. It has allowed me to accept, love, and honor my body. My classes are designed to be moderately challenging with an intention for students to leave class feeling relaxed, clear minded, stretched, and strong. I hope that with time my students will build a strong foundation to develop greater flexibility, fitness, and mental focus.
